A Glacier Fell a Kilometer, Then the Valleys Drowned
More than 1,000 are dead after ice and rock fell a kilometer into a Himalayan valley, sending floods through Nepal and Tibet. Scientists blame glacier collapse, not a quake, as missing tolls diverge by the thousands.

Early confusion centered on whether an earthquake had set everything off.
