Two Lives, One Head-On Collision on Highway 11

The number that defines this story is two. Two drivers, both alone, both pronounced dead at the scene of a head-on collision on the night of July 18, 2026, on divided Highway 11 just northwest of Regina ²⁴⁵⁷. One was a 23-year-old Saskatchewan Roughriders captain who had just helped his team win a Grey Cup. The other was a 22-year-old Indian national who had moved to Regina four years earlier and was simply driving home ¹⁰⁶.

RCMP say Jayden Dalke was behind the wheel of a silver SUV travelling northbound in the southbound lanes when it struck the oncoming car near Lumsden at roughly 9 p.m. ²⁷. Spokeswoman Mandy Meier confirmed the wrong-way direction and said investigators found both alcohol and cannabis inside Dalke's vehicle ²³⁵⁷. Officers also reported that Dalke left a Lumsden gas station without paying for fuel about 30 minutes before the crash ⁴⁶.

The other driver was Bhishma Rajyaguru. His family, thousands of kilometres away in India, is now trying to bring his body home ⁸⁶.

Reporting on the moments immediately before the collision is thin. The two facts the RCMP have put on the record are direction of travel and what was inside the SUV. Toxicology results that would speak to impairment are pending and could take months ²⁹¹⁰. A collision reconstructionist is analysing the scene ².

Because both drivers died at the scene, no charges are possible under Canadian law as it currently stands ². That legal reality does not foreclose a civil action by Rajyaguru's family, but nothing in the public record yet suggests one is being prepared.

Dalke was a homegrown Saskatchewan story. The Roughriders selected him in the sixth round of the 2022 CFL draft, and over four seasons he played 68 games for the club ⁵¹¹. He was part of the roster that won the 112th Grey Cup in Winnipeg on November 16, 2025 ⁵¹¹. General manager Jeremy O'Day, speaking in the days after the crash, described Dalke as someone who was always smiling, never had a bad day. The verbatim wording of that line is not on the public record; it surfaced in our broadcast narration and was carried by other outlets without a clean written attribution ¹.

Rajyaguru was, in the words of the Hindustan Times, a young man who had built a new life in Regina after arriving from India in 2022 ¹⁰⁶. A GoFundMe campaign is now raising money to repatriate his remains so his family can lay him to rest ⁸⁶.

The two men did not know each other. They shared a highway on a summer evening and roughly a second of metal-on-metal contact. The rest is aftermath.

The police findings are clear on direction and contents: wrong-way, alcohol, cannabis ²³⁵. They are silent on whether either substance was consumed recently enough to have caused impairment, and on how much of either was in the SUV. Those are exactly the questions toxicology is built to answer, and the RCMP has said those results will not be available for months ²⁹¹⁰.

There is also a question of motive or mind-state that no source has addressed. Dalke had played a CFL season that ended in a championship. He had paid, or failed to pay, for gas in Lumsden about half an hour before the collision ⁴⁶. Beyond those data points, the public record is blank.
